JERRY V. JONES

Oneida township lost one of its oldest pioneers Monday, in the death of Jerry V. Jones, who succumbed to an attack of paralysis after a prolonged illness. He is survived by the wife, a daughter, Ethel B. of Grand Rapids, one son. Cap, .of Charlotte, and a sister, Mrs. Alice O’Neil of Oneida. Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday. The deceased was a Royal Arch Mason and was an active member of that order. The farm where he had resided for 71 years was taken up from the government by his father, Bradford Jones, when the deceased was a young lad and has always been in the family name.

Mr. Jones was one of Eaton county’s pioneer and veteran teachers. He taught rural schools In Oneida, Roxand and Delta from the age of 17 until he reached the age of 60 years, and also conducted a private institute for teachers In Oneida. He was a very successful teacher and did much toward advancing the cause of education In this section of the state.
