Kent Was Insane
Verdict of the Circuit Court Jury Today.
THE WHEATFIELD FRATRICIDE
Will Probably Be Sent to the Asylum for Dangerous Insane—The McKenzie Case.
MASON, January 15. — The jury in the case of Simeon Kent, the Wheatfield farmer who fired a double charge of bird shot into his brother, Seth Kent, last fall, were out all night. Upon coming into court this morning the foreman of the jury rendered the following verdict:
“Insane, but not guilty.”
The charge against Kent was assault with intent to kill, and the jury found that he was not only insane at the time the act was committed, but is insane now. An order will therefore probably be entered committing him to the Asylum for Dangerous and Criminal Insane at Ionia until he is cured.
The case of the People against May McKenzie and Daniel Martin for adultery is now on trial. One or two witnesses were sworn last night.
