LIFE MEMBERSHIP CERTIFICATES PRESENTED TO SEVERAL
The “Home Coming Day” of Lansing Lodge No. 33, F. & A. M. yesterday was a decided success. Work was commenced at noon and third degrees were conferred by Past Masters Charles A. Egeler, O. C. Carr, James Potter, George H. Saxton, and the Junior Warden John H. Hawks, upon five candidates, Samuel H. Davis, J. Conley DeCamp, Robert Hard, C. Carl Richardson and Alexander Smith, during the afternoon.
At 4:30 Nelson B. Jones, was introduced to the lodge as the oldest past master and took charge of the lodge for an hour, during which time several of the older members and visiting members were called upon to speak. Among those who spoke were James Johns, Eben W. Dart, Josiah Bruno, A. D. Saxton. George H. Saxton, Edward Graham, J. T. Conn, David N. Shull, Edwin Terwilliger, James H. Gunnison, E. Temple Cameron, L. C. Briggs, J. H. Hess and James Potter.
A dinner was served at 5:30 and in the evening the third degree was conferred upon Wade M. Putman by the regular officers of the lodge. At roll, call, which lasted two hours, about 300 responded, and many who had been present in the afternoon were unable to be present in the evening. The certificate of life membership was presented to several members who have reached at least sixty-five years in age and have been forty years in Masonry. The Worshipful Master, Ernest D. Gibbs, assisted by the secretary, Edgar A. Gregg, presented the certificates. Those receiving these certificates, which were in form so that they could be easily carried in the pocket, were Aaron Aber, Benjamin B. Baker, Henry B. Baker, Stephen Bingham, John Broad, Josiah Bruno, Daniel W. Buck, John A. Carr, Myron B. Carpenter. Timothy W. Christian. Charles W. Church, Eben W. Dart, Aime M. Dobbelaere, David Ekstein, Orrin P. Frary, George F. Gillam, Johnson W. Hagadorn, Myron Green, James Johns, Nelson B. Jones, Asa L. Landon, James McCree, Stephen, Morehouse, Josiah M. Rice, Frederick Schneider, Albert D. Saxton, George W. Thomas, James H. Wellinas, Thomas J. Charlesworth, John A. Meyers, John H. Stephenson, James H. Gunnison, James R. Dart, Samuel L. Kilbourne, Edward Graham, Allison A. Nichols.
After the degree work a banquet was served and a short program given. Paul H. King acted as toastmaster, and remarks were made by Patrick H. Kelley. Edward P. Cummings and Rev. W. A. Hicks.
The lodge was fortunate in having present its oldest living member, Daniel W. Buck, and its oldest past master, Nelson B. Jones. who came from Detroit especially for the occasion. Many returned from away, among the number being Jacob H. Hess, Brant Herbison, Eddy Gunnison, James H. Gunnison, E. Temple Cameron. There were. also a number of visitors from Hillsdale, Dimondale, Okemos, Waucosta, and other near lodges, besides the visiting brothers temporarily in the city as members of the constitutional convention.
